My last blog post was 2016. So Where on earth have I been and what have I been doing? Welp, I have been employed full time as a product and lifestyle photographer for an e-commerce focused company. That is up until March of this year. As many of us are going through major transitions right now with the Covid-19 pandemic, the company I worked for was no exception. Sadly the entire creative department was laid off and while the cozy stability of a regular paycheck is now gone, I am also viewing this as an opportunity to bring my focus back to my conceptual advertising work. Where my heart truly stands.
SO! What have I added to my skillset and portfolio these past years? A TON- from athletic, to child/infant products, to food and beverage, to beauty and everything in between.
I've been working specifically in the e-commerce market, specializing in Amazon's platform. I've learned the trends, optimization, and best practices for listing photos that convert sales and beat out competitors. I've shot for 100's of brands and gotten used to smaller productions & tight budgets. Studios? Lifestyles? Super quick turn around times? You got it.
What did my day to day look like? We'd get sign-ups from our customers. I'd get to pick and choose which products I received. We were given short briefs from the customer. I'd do some research on their top competitors. Then I'd figure out location, model, and props. I'd shoot the product, edit photos, and typically hand over 7-18 final photos for each product. In one week I'd shoot anywhere from 4-10 products. Talk about a crazy fast turn around and busy schedule.
